Nantucket Food, Fuel, and Rental Assistance
NFFRA is an outreach service of the Nantucket Interfaith Council. The Nantucket Interfaith Council is a group of island churches, religious organizations, and community members who meet monthly to promote the spiritual and humanitarian wellbeing of our island community. Services are provided without regard to race, sex, creed, religious belief or sexual orientation. Read below about the three ways NFFRA is able to offer support.
Nantucket Food Pantry
The Food Assistance Program, located at 10 Washington Street, provides basic nonperishable and perishable foods in amounts proportional to family size.
The pantry is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 3-6 pm. Food delivery is also provided for seniors or disabled persons not able to visit the pantry. Emergency deliveries are also available.
Fuel Assistance
The Fuel Assistance program assists residents, both renters and home owners, to apply for benefits under the Federal Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program or the Salvation Army Home Energy Program.
For those residents not qualifying for these benefits, we will assist with an emergency oil or propane tank fill or electric minimum payment to keep the family warm until a more permanent budget arrangement can be secured with the fuel provider for future service.
Rental Assistance
The Rental Assistance Program prevents homelessness and substandard living conditions by assisting lower income families with either first/last month rent to move into suitable housing or a short-term subsidy to remain housed, including payment to avoid eviction.
Assistance, paid directly to the landlord, is generally limited to $5000 over an 18-month period, although services can be extended for long term serious illness or another catastrophic situation. Applicants must show evidence of ability to pay rent after the assistance period and agree to a detailed financial, rental, and employment history review.
