How’s Your Walk?
When we ask, How’s your walk, we are asking, How is your relationship with God? How is your life of faith coming along? We like the question, How’s your walk, because our faith is active. A relationship with God is never passive. When you decide to follow Jesus, life becomes a sacred journey, like a pilgrimage. A pilgrimage is the devotional practice of a long journey undertaken on foot toward a destination of spiritual significance. Faith is a pilgrimage, a sacred journey, a walk with God. So, how’s your walk?
We’ve created a tool for walking with God each day that involves time in the scriptures and in prayer. You can use this tool for as little as 15 minutes a day or for however long you want.
Here’s how it works:
You’ll need to bring a couple of things with you every morning. Every day you’ll need your Bible and some way of jotting down your thoughts whether it be a paper journal or the Notes app on your phone. The only other thing you’ll need is a reading plan. Our church family is currently walking together through the Gospel of John.
As you read the day’s passage, using the acronym WALK, you’re going to write down in your journal or on your phone a couple of things:
WORD
Write down one verse or phrase from the reading that stands out the most to you. It is impossible to get this wrong because this isn’t a test. Pick a verse and copy it into your journal.
ABOUT
From your reading, write down, in a sentence or two, what you think your verse is about. You’re simply making an observation about what’s happening in the verse you chose based on what’s happening in the day’s passage.
LIFE
Write down any thoughts you have about how this verse relates to what’s going on in your life. What do you think God might be saying to you through this scripture today? Is there a specific truth or action the Holy Spirit may be calling you to embrace? Is there some action God is calling you to make?
KNEEL
Kneeling is the posture of prayer. End your time by writing out a simple prayer thanking God and asking for the Spirit’s help to live out what God has spoken to you and the power to take any steps God is leading you to take.
The key to WALKING with God together is doing this practice Monday through Friday until it becomes a habit in your life. And like any new habit there will be hits and misses. Keep going! Don’t give up until you are habitually walking with Jesus every day.
